The Pride reaches the shores of Africa

Monday, 23.Jan.2012

The team finally entered Africa on a very crowded – and slightly delayed – overnight ferry from Aqaba in Jordan to Nuweiba in Egypt. After spending quite some time at the Egyptian border during the early hours of Saturday morning, Bhubesi Pride’s team eventually made it onto African roads and headed for Cairo.

All was going well along the scenic Egyptian motorways until the fan in the engine of the 4-seater Land Rover broke off, damaging and piercing the radiator in the process. This caused the engine to start leaking water at a fairly high rate. With reaching Cairo now a necessity in order to begin fixing the car, the team pushed on as a priority, stopping every 20 km to top up the water in the engine.

Due to the unforeseen stoppages for water, the Pride reached the streets of Cairo much later than planned and, after navigating through the hectic traffic, eventually made it to their campsite for the evening.

The team is now staying in Cairo for a few days, where they are in the process of obtaining their Sudanese visas, as well as getting their hands dirty in order to get the vehicles back in working order, which includes getting the necessary parts for each engine, and a new manifold gasket, fan and radiator. If these are not available in Cairo then they will be shipped to the Pride from Foley Specialist Vehicles.

Once the cars have been repaired, Bhubesi Pride’s team of coaches will then head south for a ferry into Sudan, where they will be only one country away from starting their rugby coaching mission.
