Malawi build project: Purchasing land and getting started on site

Wednesday, 30.May.2018

For over 18 months, Bhubesi Pride Foundation has been looking to purchase an appropriate plot of land in rural Lilongwe – close to where the charity has been conducting rugby programs since 2012 – on which to construct a community sports and education centre.

Today, the bulldozer started the preparatory earthworks on site, just a few weeks after the charity took receipt of its official Land Certificate. While the search started many months back, BPF’s Founder & MD, Richard Bennett, has been immersed in the journey alongside BPF Development Officer, Wordsworth Rashid. During some key interactions in September last year and May this year, Richard took a video camera with him in an effort to capture the process.

The video, below, shows some of that process.

We hope to continue documenting the progress of the build project as we target key milestones over the coming months. Our plans on the 7-acre plot include levelling a full-size rugby pitch and two netball courts, grading an access road, and constructing a clubhouse with changing rooms and learning spaces, and building basic accommodation.
