Founder & Managing Director

Richard grew up in South Africa. After completing his studies in the UK, he qualified as a teacher and worked at an independent secondary school for three years. Passionate about sport and education, Richard has over ten years’ experience of east and southern Africa, through his work and travels.

Rory McGee

Operations Director

Rory studied physical education at the University of Edinburgh before working as a rugby development officer for Scottish Rugby and Marr Rugby. A keen sportsman, Rory has represented Marr Rugby since taking up the sport at youth level. Rory first volunteered with the charity in 2016, before leading the expedition in 2017. Rory combines his expertise and love of rugby, Africa and development, embodying a new and ambitious vision for the charity.

Sally Bennett

Volunteer & Stakeholder Relationship Manager

Sally was born in England, grew up in Hong Kong, brought up her children, Richard and Samantha, in South Africa and moved to the UK in 1996. With an international background in marketing and education, Sally has been part of developing new businesses, including an independent school and a historical English garden in Somerset. At Bhubesi Pride Foundation, Sally focuses on the volunteer ‘journey’, promoting the charity’s opportunities and supporting its expanding operations.

Gemma Hodges

Assistant Treasurer

Gemma currently works in International Development, having previously been a secondary school geography teacher. Gemma has travelled through various countries in Africa and has volunteered in an orphanage in Tanzania. She specialises in climate and environmental issues and is dedicated to helping the communities within which we work to develop sustainably.

Andy Higgs

Chair of Trustees (BPF UK)

Andy is Chief Product Officer and co-founder at Akkroo, a marketing technology company which creates software that assists B2B exhibitors to generate greater value from events. He splits his time between London and Birmingham, where he lives. Andy has joined volunteers in Tanzania and Malawi to review program activities. His business expertise and guidance continue to provide an invaluable resource for the charity and its board of trustees.

Rachel Lock

Trustee

Rachel is a consultant for inclusive economic growth programs across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. She’s worked for a range of donor funded programs, primarily supporting marginalised groups to find economic and employment opportunities. Prior to this Rachel ran a UK based start-up charity helping people at risk of homelessness to find employment within the hospitality sector.

Trustee

Grant was born and raised in South Africa. Following an early career in corporate web and graphic design, he started Rugbydump in 2006 and quickly built it to become one of the most visited rugby websites globally. He has worked with Bhubesi Pride Foundation since inception and continues to help with awareness and social media strategy.

Elliott Hodges

Treasurer

Elliott is a chartered accountant and works for UK waste management group, Viridor, with previous positions held at PwC, BDO and Old Mill. Elliott has travelled to most African countries in which the charity operates. He is passionate about building a sustainable future for the communities with whom the charity works.

Bridgette Sinthampi

Trustee

Bridgette works at G4S Malawi as National Account Manager and has experience in management, business development and product development. She is a sales and marketing professional with a postgraduate diploma in marketing. Bridgette actively participates in the preparations of the charity's volunteer-related rugby events in Lilongwe. She plays golf and is the ladies vice captain at Lilongwe Golf Club.

Sergio Pinto

Trustee

Sergio is the Sales and Marketing Director at Skyband Corporation, the largest Internet Service Provider in Malawi. Sergio, along with his brother, David, founded Skyband in the early 2000’s and has been at the helm of the company ever since. Having lived in Malawi his whole life, he is also a very active member of the community who is involved in other charities as well as social and sporting clubs.

Jonas Sani

Trustee

Jonas is a Director at Good Shepherd International School in Lilongwe and he’s also working in renewable energy on one of the largest solar developments in Sub-Saharan Africa. Jonas is currently the President of Round Table Malawi.

Wordsworth Rashid

Development officer, Lilongwe, Malawi

Having helped to facilitate the charity’s programs in Lilongwe since 2011, Wordsworth managed a pilot program in 2016 and 2017 before joining the charity in a full-time capacity in 2018 as a development officer. On behalf of the charity, he runs a year-round rugby and life-skills youth program. Wordsworth also founded one of Lilongwe’s rugby clubs, the ‘Bhubesi Lions’.

Damiano Tibigwayo

Driver & training manager

Damian trained as a boxer for four years before becoming a professional driver and mechanic for the Ugandan Government in 1993. Damian, who also works for an overland company, has been Bhubesi Pride Foundation’s lead driver since 2015 and he’s a keen ambassador of the charity’s work.

Simeon Katsabola

Driver

Simeon loves sports, especially volleyball. Based in Lilongwe, he trained to become a mechanic, the experience of which helped him become a professional driver. Simeon drives overland trucks, buses and other heavy-duty vehicles. Simeon, who joined our team in 2017, is a proud family man who enjoys travel and meeting new people.

Tim Brear

Expedition leader

Tim, from Yorkshire in England, coached with Bhubesi Pride Foundation in 2016 having followed the charity’s progress since inception. He played rugby at school, club, university and in the army, before getting into coaching in 2005. At this time, he gained his RFU level 1 certificate with course mentorship from Stuart Lancaster. Tim has travelled extensively in Africa with BPF and other charities.

Duncan Grant

Expedition leader

Duncan, who is half-Kiwi, is already looking forward to the 2023 Rugby World Cup! He volunteered with Bhubesi Pride Foundation in 2016 for three months and has always been keen to return. Duncan studied physiotherapy at Cardiff University, he loves travelling and all things outdoors although his scrum-half abilities haven’t transferred to his growing interest in surfing... yet.
